When Giving Feels Easier Than Receiving: A 90-Minute Expressive Arts Workshop to Reconnect To Your Own Needs
About this Event

Do you find yourself saying yes when you want to say maybe or no?

Do you feel responsible for other people’s comfort, feelings, or needs – often at the cost of your own?

Do you give generously and freely – your time, energy, and attention – yet feel tired, unseen, or unsure of what you really need?

Many women learn early on to be helpful, nurturing, accommodating, and to not “inconvenience” others. While this has its own beauty, over time, this way of relating (sometimes labelled “people-pleasing”) can also make us lose touch with our own needs, desires, and inner voice. We become very skilled at offering care, but less practiced at receiving it. Over time, this can leave us feeling depleted, resentful, and disconnected.

This gentle 90-minute expressive arts workshop is an invitation to slow down, turn your attention inward, and reconnect with what matters to you. Through a blend of mindfulness, meditation, drawing, gentle movement, and intention-setting, you will be invited to explore:

  • What you want to bring more of into your life (a feeling, experience, dream, or goal)
  • What you actually want to give, when you do with with awareness and intention, rather than obligation

Rather than talking about people-pleasing, we’ll work experientially and allow insight to emerge through creative expression and the body’s wisdom. No art or movement experience is needed. Everything is invitational, and you’re always welcome to participate in ways that feel right for you.

Please wear comfortable clothing suitable for sitting on the floor and for gentle movement. You’re welcome to bring a journal if you’d like; all other materials will be provided.

This workshop also offers a taste of how expressive arts therapy works, and it can be a supportive first step if you’re curious about deeper one-to-one work in individual sessions.

Workshop limited to 4-6 participants to support a contained and supportive experience.

Facilitated by Darja Milidragovic, Registered Counsellor (RCC) and Expressive Arts Therapist.
