All Levels
All registrants will be requested to abide by all COVID safety protocols put in place by Oolite Arts and agree to all the terms in the waiver.
Explore the techniques of painting with watercolor while discussing the history of the medium and the philosophy behind it.
Each week will be devoted to learning the following skills brushwork, color mixing, composition, working in series, and making skilled unique work. The instructor will provide demonstrations and guide students through the watercolor process. The class will begin by sharing work done at home, and learning how to constructively critique it.
Afterwards, the class will work on a project together while discussing the week’s reading. Projects include realistic still-life, landscape, abstraction, and self-portraits.
Readings discussed will help students in understanding why we create, they include Frederick Franck’s The Zen of Seeing, Plato‘s world to forms, Henri Bergson’s Creative Evolution, and Betsy Stroud’s Painting from the Inside Out.
All skill levels are welcome and knowing how to draw realistically is not required. You may find previous classwork on the course Instagram @arielwatercolors.

ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR
Ariel Baron-Robbins has been teaching at the college level for over 10 years. She earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Painting and Drawing and her Master of Fine Arts in Interdisciplinary Studies. She has a personal relationship with watercolors as she learned how to paint with them at an early age. Her mother, Paula Temple (Professor Emeritus of Painting at the University of Mississippi) and Ariel would go on “exploring walks” with their paints and paper and create works outside. Ariel continued in her mother’s footsteps and became a Professor herself specializing in painting and drawing and progressing into video art and photography.
Ariel is an Oolite Arts alumnus (2014-2016) and drawing, watercolor, and digital art instructor.
