About this Event
The State Democracy Research Initiative and the UW GovLaw Society invite you to join us for our panel, “Exploring State Checks Against Federal Overreach” on Thursday, March 12, from 12:00-1:00 pm Central Time. This event will take place in-person in Lubar Commons (room 7200) on the 7th floor of the UW Law School. Lunch will be provided for this event.
The panel will discuss how our federalist system creates space for and seeks to manage confrontations between states and the federal government. Highlighting research from our ongoing Exploring State Checks Against Federal Overreach project, panelists will analyze state efforts to: safeguard sensitive voter data from federal collection; prosecute federal officials for violations of state criminal law; regulate the use of masks by federal law enforcement; create new civil remedies for residents when federal officials violate their constitutional rights, and more.
Our panelists will include Derek Clinger (SDRI Senior Counsel), Bryna Godar (SDRI Staff Attorney), Bridget Lavender (SDRI Staff Attorney), and Harrison Stark (SDRI Senior Counsel). The panel will be moderated by Robert Yablon (UW Law Professor, SDRI Faculty Co-Director).
