Join Greenbelt Alliance for a dog-friendly hike in the East Bay Hills.
About this Event

We'll view the remains of ancient volcanoes, gain "spiritual power" in mystic labyrinths, and visit vernal ponds on this nature saunter. Dogs are optional but bring your unleashed curiosity.

Leaders

Archana Paladugu and Ken Lavin.

Total Distance

This is an easy-to-moderate hike of about three miles with a few hundred feet in elevation change.

Cost

Free; Reservations required

Where to Meet

We will meet at the interpretive displays by the park entrance. There are restrooms nearby.

Notes

Bring snacks, water, hiking poles (if you normally use them), and a leash (if bringing a dog); wear layers and good hiking shoes. East Bay Regional Park District rules allow dogs off-leash in much of the park, provided they are in sight and under voice command. However, dogs must be leashed within 200 feet of developed areas. If you have any questions about this outing, contact Ken Lavin at [email protected].

About the Outing Leaders

Archana Paladugu is on a quest to cure her plant blindness by learning about the native plants and animals who share their land with us. She is inspired by her great-grandmother, who raised her in a little village in India and lived indigenously alongside a forest in a farming community. "The trees are your cousins. Care for them," she often heard her great-gran say. "On the last day of the world, I would plant a tree," are the words from her favorite poem by the US Poet Laureate, M.S Merwin. Archana volunteers as a climate worker for CCL and SL2050. She and her dog have been exploring the East Bay hills, learning about the flowers along the way. For a living, she is a computer scientist who works in Green Energy Tech.

Ken Lavin is Outing Coordinator for Greenbelt Alliance. He has a dog named Rowdy and a tarantula named Wishbone. The spider will not join this outing.
