About this Event

Science in SEND is full of creative, real-life learning experiences for pupils with a range of learning needs. This session focuses on how scientific enquiry can be threaded through the curriculum and how differentiation methods feed into various scientific topics and themes. Learners will also look at answering questions like 'How can we ensure that we are teaching explicit scientific vocabulary?' and 'How can we support pupils to retain knowledge over time?' This session combines essential theoretical knowledge with practical strategies and attendees learning will be assessed through applied tasks at the end of the session.

NCFE Level 3 Award

Briarwood School has worked together with the NCFE to offer those taking part in our sessions the opportunity to earn a Level 3 Award in Supporting Learners with Complex Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND). This award has been accredited as a Customised Qualification by the NCFE, and we have benchmarked the qualification’s learning outcomes and assessment criteria at Level 3 to allow you to demonstrate the level of study.

Completion of five accredited units is required to achieve the Award. Briarwood School is offering in excess of 25 different units from which to choose from across the year, covering a wide range of topics. There is one mandatory unit ‘Safeguarding Learners with Complex Needs’ which all participants must complete, which will run multiple times across the year. All other units are at the learner's discretion. Please see our Eventbrite page for full list of available sessions and our website for full details of how to gain the Award.
