Alva Mac Gowan is an archaeologist and she is also one of the few people who have explored Rathfarnham Castle's foundations! In 2014, a team of archaeologists from Archaeology Plan were hired by the OPW to excavate a treasure trove of 'historical refuse' found at the base of the southwest flanking tower. Alva was responsible for the cleaning, sorting and cataloguing of all the artefacts - all 17,000 of them! In her talk for Heritage Week 2025,she takes us back in time to reimagine Rathfarnham in the late 17th century and all the various goings on both upstairs and downstairs!
