About this Event

Spanning from the Hudson River to Harlem River and Central Park North to155th Street, Harlem is one of New York City's largest neighborhoods. Because it's so big, it has a little something for everyone, from Founding Fathers and the American Revolution; to Italian and Jewish immigration; to the Harlem Renaissance, Jazz music, and Civil Rights movement. But did you know it's also home to the city's largest West African community? It's time to embark on the ultimate tour of Harlem that not only visits some of the neighborhood's most historic sites, but also stops at New York's oldest West African restaurant for an authentic sit-down dinner.

Join New York Adventure Club for an immersive cultural experience through Harlem that combines a neighborhood walking tour with a delicious West African feast in the sub-community of Little Senegal.

Led by Alex Tervooren, local expert and owner of Food Strolls Guided Tours, this cultural adventure will include:

  • A custom made route that showcases the neighborhood’s architectural history, landmarked buildings, famous churches, and social clubs
  • The story of Harlem, from colonial times to the Harlem Renaissance and beyond
  • An introduction to Little Senegal with discussions around themes like contemporary West African migration and Ethnic Succession
  • A visit to impressive neighborhood landmarks like the campus of City College of New York, the Apollo Theater, Strivers Row, Hamilton Grange, and the recently restored Mount Morris Fire Watchtower

Afterward, we'll finish with an all-you-can-eat West African feast at the oldest Ghanaian restaurant in New York, where you’ll enjoy an authentic sit-down dinner and learn about Ghanaian cuisine from the chefs themselves

See you there, and come hungry!

*Your ticket includes a full sit-down dinner at a local restaurant in Little Senegal

**Please wear a pair of comfortable shoes as we'll be doing around two miles of walking

***Restrooms are available at various points throughout the tour

****This experience ends at Malcolm Shabazz Harlem Market on 116th St between Malcom X. Blvd and Fifth Avenue
