đź“Ť Social STUDIOArtist-in-residence Ger Xiong/Ntxawg Xyooj invites members of the HMong community to bring an object representing loss or grief to contribute to a memorial artwork in this private, reflective workshop.
Xiong/Xyooj will lead a discussion with participants about their objects in collaboration with HMong mental health professional Ka Lee. He will work with participants to attach these objects to his 2024 piece, Re/member, a necklace of heavy coins each reading “I am HMong.” In exchange, participants will receive one of the coins made by Xiong/Xyooj during his 2024 Arts/Industry residency.
The finished memorial piece will remain on view in the Social STUDIO during the residency. Later in November, it will be displayed at a location within the community (to be announced) as part of Sheboygan’s HMong New Year celebrations
