The Hike:

This is a medium level hike with some hills.

Epping Forest is a beautiful, huge forest between London and Essex. Much of the Forest is of national and international conservation importance with two thirds of it being designated as a Site of Special Scientific Interest and a Special Area of Conservation. These designations are due to its large numbers of ancient trees which support a wealth of wildlife, including wood-boring beetles and fungi, its ancient grasslands and heaths, as well as its many freshwater ponds. Oak, Beech, Birch and Hornbeam are the dominant trees.

This Route follows the Oak trail and Jacks hill, crossing through Epping Forest and some of its surrounding Buffer Lands.

How to get there:

Head to Chingford Station

We will meet outside the Train Station

By Train - Easy to reach from London liverpool street (about 20 mins)

By Car - Parking is available at Chingford plain car park OR Barn Hoppit car park. (Paid parking might need cash)

What to wear and bring:

Dress appropriately for the weather as our walks go ahead in rain or shine. It's recommended to carry a waterproof jacket at all times.

Check the forecast and bring sun cream, a hat, etc. for warm days, or waterproofs for wet days.

Since we'll be walking through woodland with nettles and a potential for tick bites, consider wearing trousers or leggings. Avoid denim or cotton.

Opt for walking shoes or boots; open-toe shoes won't be suitable.

As there might not be opportunities to purchase food or drinks along the route, bring at least 1.5 liters of water, lunch, and snacks.

Keep in mind that there won't be public toilets available on the route.

If you haven’t already filled in a form this year OR your circumstances have changed please complete the provided forms before attending; participation won't be allowed without the form being filled out. Link: https://form.jotformeu.com/93171708781362
