In this interactive workshop participants will:
Consider the contributions of service delivery and participatory community development in social practice
Understand the different types of frameworks needed by community development workers
Be introduced to a 'method map' for community development
Explore dialogue skills appropriate for developmental practice
Unpack the key movements of development work
Consider the tensions of doing development work within large organisational settings

About Peter
Peter Westoby is an Associate Professor in Community Development at Murdoch University; a Visiting Professor at the Centre for Development Support, University of Free State, South Africa; and a Director with Community Praxis Cooperative. He teaches and researches on community and social development theory and practice, dialogue studies and forced migration studies. He has worked in youth, community and organisation development for 30+ years - within South Africa, Uganda, Nepal, Vanuatu, PNG, the Philippines and Australia. He has published more than 15 books, and 60+ professional journal articles. He is known for monograph’s such as Three Rivers Flowing: Understanding Phenomenological Reflective Practice (2022), Participatory Development Practice (2018), 40 Critical Thinkers in Community Development (2020), Dialogical Community Development (2013), and Soul, Community and Social Change (2016); and has also edited several volumes including, with Shevellar, Learning and Mobilising for Community Development (2012) (Ashgate). Peter particularly loves bush walking, swimming, hanging out in independent book shops, drinking good quality coffee, and home-making.
