Exploring Architecture: William Morris Gallery exhibition tour

Thursday 6th November 2025, 2pm to 3pm

Join the William Morris Gallery’s curator for a special guided tour and delve into the latest exhibition, Women in Print: 150 Years of Liberty Textiles, with a focus on the rich history of textiles in architectural design.

Discover how William Morris, inspired by medieval interiors, taught himself embroidery and began crafting textiles to transform his home into a work of art. These early experiments emerged as a cornerstone of his design firm, with family and friends collaborating to create and design embroidered hangings and woven wall coverings that brought spaces to life.

The tour will also provide an introduction to the exhibition Women in Print, revealing how women print designers helped shape Liberty's legacy as one of the most significant textile retailers of our time.

This event is for anyone aged 55 or over that has an interest in discovering more about architecture, with a chance for discussion.

Free, please book a place.

Exploring Architecture is a monthly free event exploring areas of architectural interest around London, usually on the first Thursday of the month. Each month will take a different format, including tours, creative activities and special insights into the RIBA Collections with an opportunity to socialise.

Morris, inspired by medieval interiors, taught himself embroidery and began crafting textiles to transform his home into a work of art. These early experiments emerged as a cornerstone of his design firm, with family and friends collaborating to create and design embroidered hangings and woven wall coverings that brought spaces to life.
