Harp Magic, featuring award-winning harpist Franziska Huhn and the North Country Chamber Players
One of the world’s oldest instruments, the harp, has captivated humanity for more than 5,000 years with its ethereal sounds, often evoking the magic and myths of many cultures. Its shimmering glissandos and impressive range have made it a standout for both solos and ensembles, large and small, for centuries. Through the music of the great French master, Claude Debussy and others, listeners will experience its luminous tone and learn about the inner workings of the modern pedal harp, perfected in the 19th century, in an informal, interactive program presented by world-class performers.
Franziska Huhn, harp
Award winning harpist, Franziska Huhn, is a vibrant musical force as a soloist, chamber musician, pedagogue and orchestral performer. Ms. Huhn has given solo recitals throughout the United States and worldwide, in Lithuania, Norway, Poland, Turkey, Georgia, Russia, Syria, Pakistan and Germany, including performances for German Presidents Rau and Koehler at the Schloss Bellevue. Ms. Huhn established herself as an artist of distinction at a very young age, earning first prize in the prestigious Jugend Musiziert Competition in Germany at the age of fourteen and became the first harpist ever to be awarded an Artist Diploma by the New England Conservatory in 2005. In 2007, she also received an Artist Diploma from the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Hamburg, Germany. As a teacher, Ms. Huhn serves on the faculties of the New England Conservatory, Boston University and Wellesley College. Since 2020, she has also served as the director of the Harp Seminar at Boston University’s Tanglewood Institute. A 2003 Fromm Fellow, Ms. Huhn is well-known as a proponent of contemporary music for harp and performs works written especially for her by composers Daniel Pinkham, Lior Navok, and John Heiss. Since 2007, Franziska has served as a performer and coach at the Summer Institute for Contemporary Performance Practice at NEC, and performs regularly with the contemporary music ensembles Callithumpian Consort and Sound Icon.
