About this Event

Step into the world that inspired Middle-earth. On this private, guided walking tour, you'll visit key locations that shaped J.R.R. Tolkien's imagination during his childhood in Birmingham.

Led by a local Tolkien enthusiast, this 2-hour experience takes you through enchanting landscapes, forgotten footpaths, and places that directly influenced the creation of the Shire, Hobbiton, and Tolkien’s magical forests. Including Tolkien first home in Birmingham! (the inside cannot be explored as it is occupied). Along the way, enjoy fun quizzes, behind-the-scenes stories, and fascinating insights into Tolkien’s early life.

This is a guided tour only, led by a local Tolkien enthusiast. The route includes areas that are difficult to navigate without local knowledge, as well as hidden gems that are easy to miss unless guided. For a full, safe, and enriching experience, it’s recommended to follow the tour guide rather than attempt the route independently as you can easily get lost in the nature reserve and shires
