About this Event
During an Expedition BlueCity, you’ll immerse yourself in the circular world of BlueCity in just one afternoon and take part in a guided tour of the former subtropical swimming paradise. Here, you can smell, taste, and see how the circular economy comes to life at BlueCity. The tour is led by Emma van der Leest, founder of the BlueCity Lab, the world’s first circular-built biolab.
Workshop: Fungi Textile Dye
The tour won’t just introduce you to inspiring circular-economy examples from BlueCity entrepreneurs; you’ll also get hands-on yourself. In the BlueCity Lab circular fashion designer Ilse Kremer will teach you how you make your own bag using reused fabrics (lace), which you will dye on-site with sustainable color pigments derived from fungi.
About Fabulous Fungi
The textile industry has long been known for its polluting processes, from water contamination to the excessive use of harmful chemicals. With her company Fabulous Fungi, Ilse Kremer is developing a sustainable alternative to harmful synthetic textile dyes. What began as a graduation project has grown into an ambitious circular start-up, in which the fashion designer extracts pigments from various types of fungi.
