Monte Clark Gallery is pleased to present an exhibition of works by Swedish-Canadian artist Vilhelm Sundin. Featuring six new and recent photographic and video works, the exhibition explores perceptions of time through a durational experience and temporal distortion.
The three time-based works on display are the result of Sundin's experimentations of creating seamless video loops. The lack of apparent beginnings or endings reflect the fluid feeling of time passing by. In the new animated work, titled Other Days (2026), patterns of daily life are on display on an inconspicuous street corner. The title alludes to the days we eventually forget, while becoming part of an abstract and larger sense of memory, that is imprecise yet represents an emotional imprint of our past. The two other time-based works instead alter the experience of time. In Forever Night (2026), a moon is stuck in the sky lighting up an endless chain of clouds while a horizon moves through a constant change between dusk and night in Light Horizon (2023).
The composition of time is also evident in the three included photographs. The new expansive picture Sea to Sky (2026) encapsulates Sundin’s interest in capturing landscapes shaped by contemporary infrastructure in his surroundings around Vancouver and British Columbia. Conveying a highway running along the mountains, the work is constructed using multiple photographs of the area. The picture is a continuation of the artist’s previous Vancouver works such as The Ship at the Bottom of the Mountain (2018) that observes views of our surroundings that one day will undoubtedly look different due to the ever-changing needs of society.
Sundin’s multidisciplinary practice intermingles music, video, animation and photography into works that engage with the feeling of the present age. Integral to his body of work, he uses contemporary mediums that capture the visual fidelity of our time.

Vilhelm Sundin received an MFA from Simon Fraser University and a BA in Media Arts from Emily Carr University of Art + Design. His solo exhibition Soon was presented as part of the 2021 Capture Photography Festival. In 2016, Sundin was awarded the inaugural Lind Prize, and his work was subsequently included in N. Vancouver, the opening exhibition of The Polygon Gallery. Two of Sundin's video works were recently acquired by The Audain Art Museum and are currently on view in Whistler as part of the Museum's permanent display. Born in Sweden, Sundin relocated to Canada in 2006 and lives and works in Vancouver, British Columbia.
