Join photojournalist Leonardo Carrizo for a discussion of his documentary series on Ecuador's Diablada Pillareña festival, part of the "Dancing with Devils: Latin American Mask Traditions" traveling exhibit currently on view at the Teresa Lozano Long Institute of Latin American Studies.
This event takes place in SRH 1.313 and portions of the third-floor hallway of SRH 1 (LLILAS).
Carrizo will provide a guided tour of his photographs, share insights into the making of the series, explore the roles and symbolism of the festival’s characters, and discuss the ethical considerations of documenting cultural traditions. The session will be interactive, inviting audience questions and reflections.
Biography
Leonardo Carrizo (1976, Buenos Aires, Argentina) is a multiplatform lecturer in the School of Communication at The Ohio State University, where he teaches courses in multimedia journalism and visual communication design. Based in Columbus, Ohio, Carrizo is also an accomplished multimedia photojournalist whose work explores visual storytelling with a focus on the human condition, traditions, culture, and labor. His extensive travels throughout Ecuador have led to three major documentary exhibitions:
"The Face of Chagas Disease" — Quito, Ecuador (2009)
"Ecuadorian Labor and Life" — Columbus, Ohio (2018)
"Dancing with Devils: Latin American Mask Traditions" — Columbus, Ohio (2020)
About the Event
