Flowers arranged with intention, books paused mid-thought, wine glasses catching light somewhere between celebration and survival. Chloe Blades’ paintings are lush and theatrical - but what does it take to make tablescapes that look that way? What stories sit underneath what first appears abundant and composed?Join us for the opening of 'I Put the Flowers There So It Looked Like I Had My Life Together' by artist Chloe Blades.
In this exhibition, Blades’ vivid, psychologically charged tablescapes sit alongside paintings and domestic artefacts drawn from local Southland collections. Together, they trace the emotional architecture of women’s lives - the beauty on display, and the labour quietly holding it in place.
The objects gathered here reveal the choreography beneath that effort. After all, a table is rarely just a table - and the flowers rarely arrange themselves.
Come for the art, meet the artist, and stay for the stories (and maybe a little longer than planned).
