The American Traveler is a meditation on the restless spirit of exploration that defines the American experience. From the mythology of the open road to the enduring allure of Route 66, travel functions as both a literal journey and a powerful symbol of the American Dream. Devereux explores this ethos through iconic imagery: cars idling beneath neon signs, train tracks fading into distant horizons, and roadside architecture poised between past prosperity and present decline.Join us on June 5 from 5:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m., during St. Augustine’s First Friday Art Walk for the opening of Alex Devereux: The American Traveler.
Refreshments will be served. Guests should enter through the Radzinski Garden located at the rear of the Lightner Museum. Guests will also have the opportunity to view our current exhibition, A Moment in Time: America 250 | Plein Air Paintings from America’s First Coast.
Created to showcase the extraordinary talents of artists who live in the Northeast and Central Florida regions, Lightner Local is supported by the Benjamin and Jean Troemel Arts Foundation.
