Born and raised in Guyana, Locke moved to the UK in 1954 as part of the Windrush Generation. The exhibition includes early ceramics inspired by natural forms and the human body, and larger scale paintings and sculptures exploring issues around history and identity.
Organised in collaboration with Spike Island, Bristol and Camden Art Centre, London with support from the Donald Locke Estate. The exhibition is generously supported by The Ampersand Foundation, Henry Moore Foundation, the Paul Mellon Centre for Studies in British Art, Alison Jacques and the Donald Locke Estate.
