Artist Statement
Outside of family, art and travel are my two loves. The opportunity to do both whilst travelling solo around Asia presented itself in a way I could not resist. My sense of adventure and creativity was highly charged and I couldn’t wait to start my travels .
In April 2023 with art materials, minimum essentials packed, and passport in hand I left Paragon Station on the start of my creative adventure. Feeling a pull to Asia and excited to be travelling to Bangkok.
I was keen to capture the views I encountered in a natural responsive and impulsive way without too much thought of the end result. Process was key, with feeling, and a sense of place to convey on the canvas using colour and mark making to develop further.
Capturing the Chao Phraya River and riverside in Bangkok, and the surrounding area on canvas using pencil and watercolour I soon relaxed and felt able to be free, happy, and confident with the results.
Travelling from Bangkok to Malaysia I found new places to capture, using a softer approach with a limited palette I saw a real contrast to the watercolours I produced from the scenes I captured in Bangkok. I was surprised to see how I had developed a different approach, again I was happy with the results
This exhibition conveys my sense of Bangkok in Thailand and George Town in Malaysia.
