Panel 1: Innovation and Leadership - Discerning New Horizons
Moderator: Hyder Taufik
Panelists: Zainul Abidin Rasheed; Leonard Thangavelu, PBM; Matthew Noel Fernandez; Melvin Tan Boon Pin
This panel explores the role of leaders in fostering an environment that encourages innovation, where new ideas are valued, risks are taken, and creative processes are institutionalised. It is about leaders who not only adapt to change but drive change in pursuit of better solutions and strategies. This is especially pertinent in light of the recent post-pandemic economy, and regional conflicts impacting businesses and organisations at many levels. We are living in a time where there are changes in the global order. One of the great challenges of innovation is the challenge of sustainability, as we tackle the unique challenges of the climate crisis.
Panel 2: VUCA Leadership - Leading During the Storm
Moderator: Wendy Koh
Panelists: Eric Tanoto; Tunku Dato' Dr. Fauzi Malek; Michael Aw; Vernon Lim
This panel explores the uncertain sociopolitical environment, in light of the challenges of climate change, the onset of the fifth industrial revolution, the increasing adoption of Artificial Intelligence, and developments in finance such as cryptocurrency derivatives. VUCA leadership is about being prepared for the unexpected, being able to adapt on the fly, and having the foresight to see and the courage to seize opportunities in a complex and uncertain world.
Panel 3: ESG & Climate Change - Succeeding in a New World
Moderator: Kin Ng
Panelists: David Chen; Swarnika Prasad Kashyap; Dr. Victor Tay; Dr. Vincent Lim
Leadership in Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) and in climate change refers to the role of leaders in driving sustainability initiatives within their organisations. Leaders need to educate themselves and build their climate-risk competency, gaining an understanding of industry-specific global warming, international debate, risk literacy, and more. Leaders are responsible for integrating ESG principles into their organisation’s strategy and operations. This includes setting ESG goals, tracking progress, and reporting on ESG performance. Leaders play a crucial role in addressing climate change by reducing their organisation’s environmental impact, investing in clean technologies, and advocating for policies that support a low-carbon economy.
Panel 4: Diversity, Equity, Inclusivity - Staying the Course
Moderator: Maribel Colmenares
Panelists: Choo Phaik Ai; De'Angello Harris; Farhas Farouk; Jasmin Ignatius
This panel explores the challenges of modern leadership in balancing an ethical culture with a diverse one, while promoting ethical decision-making and inclusive thinking. While this looks great on paper, the practical aspects of leading in a multicultural context requires nuance. Additionally, many countries have specific challenges and national needs that have to be met, such as Malaysia’s bumiputera policy.
