* The TRUE cause of excess weight (Hint: it has NOTHING to do with self-control and willpower)
[OK - SPOILER ALERT: The REAL reason many struggle to lose weight (OR struggle to keep it off!) is to do with chronic stress and the metabolism.
This is because chronic stress slows our metabolisms - turning our bodies into highly efficient calorie and fat-conservation machines.
And, insult to injury, stress triggers emotional eating!
The thing is, most of us also don't understand 'stress.' The most invisible and toxic form of stress is not external - it's internal.
It's the terrible things we say to ourselves.
Sometimes we aren't aware of our stress-inducing, metabolism-slowing toxic self-talk habits (we've been doing it for so long we don't consciously notice it).
Or we are aware of our punitive self-talk, but believe it's necessary to DISCIPLINE ourselves into losing weight. How's that working for you?

ABOUT DR REBECCA STAFFORD (AKA DR HABIT AKA ME!)
I became obsessed with habit change when I needed to get myself from university dropout to PhD - and I've been helping others change seemingly-intractable habits ever since.
I also narrowly escaped a full-blown eating disorder as a teen. My well-intended but very controlling mother tried to limit my food intake - contributing to my many years of both food restriction and binging as an adult.
This is not about 'parent-bashing' - everyone is doing the best they can with the tools they have at the time. And food and weight are challenging topics for many in a culture where we get SOOOOO many mixed messages.

FAQ
Q1. Can I pay cash on the day?
A1. The short answer is "Yes" - I prefer online banking - it minimizes cash handling for me - but if you need to pay cash, that's OK - but you'll need to message me and get confirmation of your place.
Q1. Are we doing yoga? This event is in a yoga studio and you want us to bring a yoga mat!
A. No, no yoga. We will be lying down on the yoga mats for several parts of the workshop - such as the hypnotherapy session. And we will likely be moving our bodies around over the afternoon - maybe disco - who knows? It'll be practice in listening to what our bodies actually want.
Other than that, the Yoga Tree studio is a really beautiful space that I thought would be a lovely place to hold this workshop.
