For cops, detectives, and analyst who know Excel but want to learn advanced LE scenarios to improve their data analysis skillset
About this Event

Are you good with Microsoft Excel but want to become an expert user, especially as it applies to law enforcement scenarios? Maybe you want your LE career to shift towards an investigative division, crime center, or senior analyst role. Regardless, if you want to improve your LE Excel skillets, register for this course so you can develop, hone, or maintain your expertise analyzing investigative and crime situations faced by law enforcement practitioners, from detectives to chiefs and everything in between.

We'll visualize datasets and learn how to answer popular questions detectives need answered pertaining to cell phone records, tower data, and bank records.

We’ll show how to analyze big-picture crime data so LE executives become fluent in and understand, with more depth, the crime patterns and trends affecting the community.

Most officers and investigators are stripped of, or left without, sophisticated computer software because of pricy annual subscriptions. However, Microsoft Excel offers extraordinary functions to help crime fighters analyze and visualize complex data. Come see how during this two-day course.

If time permits, we might even demonstrate or survey how to structure and manage datasets such as lead tracking and caseloads. We might even preview how to structure relationship data more in-depth for importation into link analysis visualizers like i2.

INSTRUCTOR: James Ward has been an intelligence analyst for over 20 years and has: convinced a district attorney to accept M**der charges based on pinpointing togetherness using geospatial data from Excel, helped persuade a defense attorney to take a plea resulting from cell phone analysis, analyzed bank and other records related to terrorism investigations, uncovered serial rapists, and helped numerous investigators solve other data analysis problems and following money trails--all in Excel.

TAKEAWAYS: Learn data analysis techniques in order to:

  • Analyze phone records
  • Analyze bank records
  • Analyze cell tower data
  • Visualize Excel location data geospatially
  • Discover hidden trends or linkages
