This is an in-person program at the 53rd Street Library. Join us for “EVERYTHING TO GAIN: Starting and Building a Nonprofit” - A FREE Five-Part Workshop Series. Hosted by the Director of the Center for Bronx Nonprofits, these exclusive events will empower you to create your own nonprofit today!

Each session will be able to be attended as a stand alone offering but attendance at all five sessions will be encouraged. The goal of the series is to familiarize attendees with the process of creating a nonprofit organization including necessary paperwork to be submitted, the rationale for the creation of the organization, and the first steps including drafting a mission statement and choosing board members and operational planning for the future.

SESSION 01: So You Are Thinking About Starting a Nonprofit Organization

This session will involve conversations with the participants as to what their ideas are for the nonprofits they want to create, why they want to do this, what their leadership experience has been including fund-raising, whether they have investigated the need for this type of organization, who will the nonprofit serve and what they want to accomplish.

ABOUT THE WORKSHOP SERIES:

Each workshop in the series is designed as an interactive and action-oriented session, highlighting the essential foundations of business development, and providing attendees with the information to create a strategy for their nonprofit. Attendees will gain and be empowered with a better understanding of the process and the steps necessary for beginning and, more importantly, growing your nonprofit organization.

ABOUT THE PRESENTER:
Eileen Newman is a dynamic motivator, visionary and a team builder who has spent her entire career in the nonprofit sector most recently as the Founder and Executive Director of the Center for Bronx Nonprofits. Her work at the Center included assisting individuals and teams in the creation of nonprofits, providing leadership development and capacity building opportunities through workshops and conferences, facilitating peer learning networks and coaching executive and middle management leaders.

Eileen has spent many years in the arts community with a focus on independent film and has held executive positions at the Tribeca Film Institute, IFP now Gotham, the National Board of Review and Film/ Video Arts.

Her love of books and media led her to obtain a Masters Degree in Library Science and to positions as Director of the New York City School Library System, Director of Libraries and Instructional Media at Sewanhaka Central High School and to New Visions for Public Schools and the Library Power Program where she was a member of a team rebuilding school libraries throughout the city.

Eileen is happy to be working with the New York Public Library System to encourage and assist creators and leaders in the creation of nonprofit organizations which she believes strengthen communities throughout New York City.
