About this Event
Difficulty: Moderate, with some rocky inclines with uneven surfaces. Slow pace.
Appropriate for: All. Children ages 10+ welcome if accompanied by an adult.
Leader: Boot Boutwell
About Boot: Roland “Boot” Boutwell, a freelance itinerant naturalist, has been leading nature walks for the Friends of the Fells for nearly 25 years. He has also led walks and/or taught botany programs for a number of other organizations including The Trustees of Reservations, Arlington Community Education, The Massachusetts Association of Conservation Commissions, Winchester public schools, Wright-Locke Farm in Winchester, The New England Wild Flower Society and the Massachusetts Audubon Society.
About the walk: We will search the Long Pond area for a variety of evergreens as well as other easily recognizable plants of winter including a few winter weeds. As always, we will also focus on some fun and interesting natural history about these plants, and of course there will be a poem or two or three. Meet at the Long Pond parking lot, opposite 532 South Border Road in Winchester.
Heavy rain or heavy snow cancels.
**Please do not register unless you can absolutely attend this walk. We often have waitlists and would like as many folks as possible to be able to attend.**
Contact: Contact Boot Boutwell (781-729-4712) or [email protected] with any questions and/or concerns.
Dogs: This program is not suitable for our furry friends (it's a moderate hike with uneven terrain). Please take a look at our calendar for other walks that are good for dogs to join!
Please note: Emails from Eventbrite may end up in your spam folder. Please check your spam folder if you have registered for the waitlist to ensure that you are receiving the email notifications. We also suggest removing Eventbrite from your spam sender list.
