The Adult Choir of St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church in Burke, Virginia travels to St. Paul’s, K Street in Washington DC to sing Evensong and Benediction under the direction of St. Paul’s parishioner and St. Andrew’s music director Gabriel Rhys Simerson.
WHAT TO EXPECT
Evensong is sung Evening Prayer and features canticles and psalms appointed for the evening and sung by the choir on the congregation’s behalf. The scripture is adorned by hymns and anthems.
Benediction, akin to eucharistic adoration, is a brief ritual appended to Evensong in which hymns and prayers are sung as Christ’s Body is exposed at the High Altar and blesses the people, all kneeling.
Very limited parking is available in a small lot off Snows Court or on the street; the Foggy Bottom Metro is a few blocks’ walk.
