Monday Lectures at the Faculty of Fine Art, Music and Design, University of Bergen is pleased to invite you all to the public lecture “Adventures in Concrete – Creativity and R(adical)evolution in Maintenance, Care and Construction” by Eva Rowson.
Eva Rowson is an artist, curator and Managing Director of Bergen Kjøtt, a cultural venue in Bergen´s Skuteviken / Sandviken neighborhood and one of Norway´s largest production houses for music and sound. In this lecture, Rowson will talk about her approach to creating an inclusive, sustainable and experimental institution - through her interests in care, maintenance and construction. When we focus on these often invisibilised or undervalued types of work, we can start to revolutionize their creative potential and make small but transformational changes in both our cultural institutions, and the world.
Eva Rowson’s curatorial work is rooted in hosting, maintenance and collaboration. This is at the core of curatorial projects including: 38b - the living room exhibition space (with Luke Drozd, London, 2010-18), Como imaginar una musea? - a Catalan-Spanish-English imagining of a feminist cultural institution (BAR Project, Barcelona, 2017-19), and Who’s doing the washing up?, a curatorial programme about institutional re-imagining (Re-Imagine Europe, Bergen Kunsthall, Norway / Lighthouse Brighton, UK, 2018-19).

Eva curated "with eyes closed, call me" the 2019 MA Exhibition at Bergen Kunsthall and since 2020 she has led Collaborative Practices, a ‘take-over’ project of Bergen Kjøtt as part of the year-group module for all students in the MA1 class at KMD during the spring semester. In 2021, Eva co-founded GRIP at Bergen Kjøtt iian initiative to train and empower more women, non-binary and transgender sound and light technicians.
The lecture is held at Knut Knaus Auditorium, Møllendalsveien 61. The location has step free access. The lecture is held in English and is free and open to all.
Monday Lectures is a public platform combining invited guest lecturers and professors and researchers of the faculty at KMD. Monday Lectures aim to create a diverse programme of lectures exploring a wide range of disciplines and research topics. Lectures typically take place on Mondays at 10:00 at the Knut Knaus Auditorium and are free and open to all.
