EVENT DESCRIPTION
When you read this event description you'll get answers to questions you didn't even know you had - this description is THAT good! :D
ETERNALS PARADE GROUP THEME
Marvel's Eternals costumes are welcome! Our theme has always been eternal/ immortal creatures and/ or Dragon Con themed outfits. It is pretty simple - we are the Dragon Con Eternal Members so we are using every part of that for our theme. This is a broad theme that is open to a wide range of creative interpretations, exactly what costumers do best!
Participating in our theme has always been optional. You can march in our group with any costume that is allowed by the rules of the parade. We encourage creativity!

The required parade wristbands will be distributed on Saturday morning at 8:00 am in the Marriott.
HOW CAN I PICK UP MY WRISTBAND ON THURSDAY OR FRIDAY?
If you would like to pick up your wristband on Thursday or Friday then sign up directly with the parade when parade registration opens in February. Register directly with the parade as an individual and request to be placed in a specific group. During registration write this on their form: "I would like to be placed with the Eternals group led by Zan Bowden." Then you will be able to pick up your wristband from the parade table on Thursday or Friday. In past years the parade table has been in the Sheraton on the same level as registration. Follow their social media for details as they become available at http://www.dragoncon.org/things-to-do/parade.

Probably not. The Google Form explains your choices.
https://forms.gle/qpRXEwMDCsdBRK4B7.
DO I HAVE TO BE AN ETERNAL MEMBER?
No, you don't have to be an Eternal Member (or know one) to march in the parade with us. We welcome everyone.
PARADE GROUP THEME
We usually discuss our theme in https://www.facebook.com/groups/DragonConEternalMembers. Participation in our theme is always optional, you can wear any costume that is allowed by the parade's rules.
----
8:00 AM ON SATURDAY MORNING IS PARADE WRISTBAND PICKUP. DON'T GET LEFT BEHIND, BE ON TIME
WHEN: Join us on Saturday morning at 8:00 AM sharp to get your required parade wristband and go through the check in process for our group. Be on time. People who are late may miss the parade, it happens every year. Don't let all of your hard work go to waste, be on time.
MEETING AREA AND MAPS.
We are meeting just outside the Eternals/VIP Badge Pickup room in Marriott room L507-508, lobby level. A map of our meeting spot is at http://dragonconeternalmembers.com/parade. Go to the Starbucks and look for the nearby concierge desk. Go all the way down the hallway to the immediate left of the the concierge desk. You will see the Eternals/VIP badge pickup room to your right. We are meeting outside this room in the nearby lobby area. You can also see page 75 of the Pull Out Map in 2016's printed pocket program.
We will leave at 8:30 AM to take a free shuttle bus to the the parade staging area together. This bus is just for parade marchers. If you miss taking the bus with us then you can take a later shuttle or walk there. Allow 45 minutes to walk there and find us at the staging area. It is a mile long walk through heavy crowds.
There will be a very long line to get on the shuttle bus. If you get in line for the bus later than 9:00 AM you may not arrive to the staging area on time. This is why you should meet with us at 8:00 AM so we can all travel together as a group. We don't want to leave anyone behind to be eaten by zombies but we will. The parade will start on time with or without us.
Marchers need to be at the staging area no later than 9:30 AM. Security will not allow latecomers to enter and you will not be allowed to march in the parade. It happens to people every year. Staging for marchers is set up by assigned parade sections in the order they will be marching in the parade. This map is made available by Annie Carter, head of the parade, a couple of days before Dragon Con.

DRAGON CON PARADE RULES
* A costume is required to march in the parade. This is a parade rule that is true for all sections/groups. In the Before Times over 80,000 people have lined the streets of Atlanta to see Dragon Con's best costumes!
* A Dragon Con badge valid for Saturday and parade wristband are required. A Saturday-only badge and full-weekend both will work.
* SATURDAY-ONLY MEMBERSHIPS. On August 1, 2021 it was announced that no Saturday-only badges would be sold for that Dragon Con 2021. Single day memberships were sold for all days EXCEPT Saturday. Saturday is the day the parade happens.
* Will there be single day memberships for 2022? If so, how much will they cost?
As of this writing, it is unknown but according to https://www.dragoncon.org/about/membership-info , the pricing and availability of single day memberships will be determined and announced prior to June 1, 2022 Please stay tuned to official Dragon Con social media accounts to keep on top of news.
* Learn all the rules about Saturday-only badges by reading the official rules for the parade at https://www.facebook.com/groups/dragonconparade/files . You need to be a member of that FB group to read the rules.
WHY DO I NEED A WRISTBAND?
The parade requires that all marchers must have a wristband and a Dragon Con badge. Security will be checking for both of them. The purpose of the wristbands is to identify registrants and allow them entry into the staging area to march.
I WANT TO GET MY REQUIRED PARADE WRISTBAND ON THURSDAY OR FRIDAY. HOW CAN I DO THAT?
Maybe, your choices are explained on our form at https://forms.gle/qpRXEwMDCsdBRK4B7 .
Follow the news from the parade's official social media accounts to learn when and how to sign up as an individual. Registration usually opens on February 15. Information about where and when to pick up your wristband is released a few days before Dragon Con. http://www.dragoncon.org/things-to-do/parade
HOW DO I REGISTER A VEHICLE?
If you have a vehicle then register directly with the parade as an individual and request to be placed in a specific group. Vehicles will get separate instructions from the parade. During registration write this on their form: "I would like to be placed with the (name of group) led by Zan Bowden." Vehicle spots are very limited. Last year all the vehicle spots were taken under a day. Get current information from the official parade resources at https://www.dragoncon.org/things-to-do/parade.
HOW DO I INVITE A FRIEND TO JOIN?
If you want to invite a friend who is not on Facebook, send them to this page for instructions. http://dragonconeternalmembers.com/parade
------
WHEN DOES THE PARADE START?
The parade starts promptly at 10:00 AM.
WHEN DOES THE PARADE END?
Usually around noonish. The ending time will vary based on the order in which we march. If our group is towards the end of the parade then we will finish later than those at the front.
To be safe, plan to miss the first panel of the day. Also, you may want to change and take a shower afterwards. It can be a hot, sweaty walk. But so worth it!
MAPS
Maps are released a couple of days before con. This includes the wristband pickup area, the parade route (about a mile), and the staging area lineup order map. This is where we wait before the parade. It is a perfect time to rehearse what you want to do while marching and take some photos. You can see the maps from previous years at https://dragonconeternalmembers.com/parade.
Keep checking the Announcements section at https://www.facebook.com/groups/dragonconparade/announcements/ for all of the latest information. Scroll back in that group to read recent updates. Annie Carter is the head of the parade and she will release all of the official information.
ACCESSIBILITY
The parade route is about a mile of walking on a downtown city street. The pace varies. It is mostly slow but sometimes we will be directed by the parade volunteers to speed up or slow down. If you need mobility assistance, contact Dragon Con's Disability Services, https://www.dragoncon.org/resources/at-the-show/disability. They can help direct you to find scooters to rent and offer helpful advice.
WHAT TO PACK AND BRING
* Pack an umbrella. The parade will go on if there is light rain.
* Bring your own water. The parade supplies one water bottle per person but it is very crowded so for health reasons you shouldn't rely on this. It best to arrive prepared.
* Comfortable shoes. Break them in first. Trust me, you don't want to spend the rest of the weekend in pain that could have been easily avoided. The parade route is about a mile. A long, slow mile on a hot/wet downtown city street. Wear shoes that can handle this and won't get ruined.
