ESTEBAN HERRERA TRIO

FEATURING: JEFF SULIMA - DRUMS, AND JEFF GAMMON - ACOUSTIC BASS

Esteban Herrera is a pianist, composer, arranger, producer, and educator based in Calgary, Canada. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Jazz Music Performance, a Bachelor’s degree in Communication Sciences, and a technical degree in piano. With over 30 years of experience as a professional musician, Esteban has developed a unique voice in contemporary world jazz, blending the traditions of Latin American music with modern jazz improvisation, complex rhythms, and rich harmonies.

As a bandleader, he has released 13 albums, seven of them recorded and produced in Canada, each of which has received significant recognition across media, audiences, and countries. His discography has earned him multiple award nominations, including a 2022 JUNO Award nomination, as well as winning a YYC Music Award in 2023. Esteban is also a voting member of the Grammys and the Latin Grammys, actively contributing to the international recognition of Latin and jazz music.

He has lived in Spain, Germany, Mexico, and Canada, experiences that deeply influence his artistic perspective and musical voice. In 2024, Esteban toured Canada, performing at major jazz festivals, including Montreal, Victoria, Saskatoon and Winnipeg. His ensembles, such as the Esteban Herrera Trio, Quintet, and Calgary Latin Orchestra, showcase his versatility as both a pianist and a composer, moving seamlessly from intimate contemporary jazz to large-scale Latin orchestral projects.

In addition to his performing career, Esteban is a dedicated educator. He has taught piano for over 15 years, currently working with students at Long & McQuade lesson centres in Calgary, and is also a clinician for the Mount Royal University Conservatory and the Calgary Catholic Board of Education. His teaching philosophy emphasizes creativity, discipline, and emotional connection, inspiring students to discover their own artistic voices.

Esteban is also a visual artist, designing album covers and artwork. This multidisciplinary creativity reinforces his vision of music and art as deeply interconnected expressions of human experience.

Today, Esteban continues to create, record, and perform music that is both adventurous and deeply emotional. His work speaks to audiences seeking genuine artistic expression, resonating with those who value the depth of human experience beyond entertainment.
