A Müpa közönsége által legrégebben és legjobban visszavárt művészek egyike esperanza spalding. Az évek előrehaladtával egyre kevésbé kategorizálható spalding érdeklődési köre jóval túlmutat énekes-basszushangszeres művészetén: önmagát mint zeneszerző, költő, táncos, terapeuta, történetmondó, oktató és közösségépítő is meghatározza, aki még a talajmegújítás terén is tesz erőfeszítéseket. Ötszörös Grammy-díjas, tizenegyszeres jelölt, nyolc nagylemezt jegyez. Legutóbbi, 2024-es alkotása a legendás Milton Nascimentóval készült, akit Wayne Shorterhez hasonlóan mentorának is tekinthet. Mostani triójában hozzá közel álló muzsikustársak, a lenyűgözően sokoldalú Morgan Guerin billentyűs-szaxofonos-basszusgitáros és Eric Doob dobos csatlakoznak hozzá a színpadon.

Among the artists who have already appeared at Müpa Budapest, it is the return of esperanza spalding that has been anticipated longest and most eagerly. As the years have passed, she has become ever harder to pin down, and her sphere of interest now extends far beyond singing and playing the bass: She now defines herself as a composer, poet, dancer, therapist, storyteller, educator, community builder, and even as an advocate for soil regeneration. She has five Grammy Awards, 11 nominations, and eight albums to her name. Her latest, released in 2024, was recorded in collaboration with the legendary Milton Nascimento, whom she regards as something of a mentor alongside Wayne Shorter. In her current trio, she is joined by two musicians very close to her heart: the stunningly versatile keyboardist, saxophonist and bass guitarist Morgan Guerin, and the drummer Eric Doob.
