About this Event

Business for Impact is pleased to invite all Georgetown students, alumni and partners to join us for a Learning Lab on ESG, impact investing and the future of corporate sustainability.

ESG & SUSTAINABLE BUSINESS:

Is ESG investing a fleeting trend of “woke capitalism” or is investment in socially and environmentally sustainable business practices here to stay?

ESG (Environmental, Social and Governance) concerns dominate U.S. business headlines today. Anti-“woke capitalism” protestors object to investment funds eliminating carbon from their portfolios, and reject corporate policies such as those governing LGBT employees rights or women’s reproductive health. Meanwhile, the corporate sustainability movement has been accelerating for decades. A broader idea than ESG, corporate sustainability has the goal of creating value for customers while generating profits and managing the environmental and social impacts – both positive and negative –for all stakeholders, including workers, suppliers and distributors, and every community member affected by how a business operates.

Business for Impact invites students from all Georgetown University schools – the College, GLS, GSAS, McCourt, McDonough, SCS, SFS, and the Schools of Medicine and Health – to join us for a lively and educational discussion with our Featured Speakers, who will share how their companies approach these important social and environmental issues. Come learn about the differences between ESG, impact investing and sustainable business practices, and take advantage of this unique opportunity to explore careers and network with Georgetown alumni who are leaders in the fields of ESG and corporate sustainability.
