About this Event

Join esea ArtClub from 11am on Thursday 18th July for a complimentary creative workshop tailored for East and Southeast Asian elders (aged 50 and over). This summer, we warmly welcome both new and existing ArtClub members to come together for art-based activities in a Cantonese Opera Singing workshop.

Led in Cantonese, Kamling Fung and Yuen Wah Leung will guide participants through the fundamentals of Cantonese opera, covering techniques such as 'Gunhua' and 'Zhongban,' alongside a range of other vocal techniques.

Furthermore, this session will include performances of classic songs such as ‘The Encounter of Breaking Plum Blossoms in The Red Plum Blossom: Rebirth’ and ‘The Unfinished Love and Hatred in The Feng Pavilion: Barbarian Song of the Hu Di.’

Materials and light refreshments will be provided throughout the workshop. Attendance is free of charge, but due to limited capacity, advance booking is essential to secure your place.

About esea ArtClub

Begun as a research project in 2018, the Dumpling Social Club is the longest community-oriented project initiated by the former Centre for Chinese Contemporary Art. Now reestablished as esea ArtClub, the fortnightly art club is open to the elderly (50+) members from local communities.

Throughout the pandemic, esea ArtClub members continued to meet up virtually and gained confidence in experimenting with various mediums of art-making. By offering creative opportunities to people of less-represented age groups and from a range of economic, social and cultural backgrounds, esea contemporary continues to review its community responsibility and the social dimension of participation.

If you are interested in supporting or participating in the group, please get in touch at [email protected] or call 0161 832 7271.
