When he does, he lays out exactly how he's planned Hazel's future. She will become a great healer, known throughout the kingdom for her precision and skill. To aid her endeavors, Merrick blesses Hazel with a gift, the ability to instantly deduce the exact cure needed to treat the sick.
But all gifts come with a price. Hazel can see when Death has claimed a patient--when all hope is gone--and is tasked to end their suffering, permanently. Haunted by the ghosts of those she's killed, Hazel longs to run. But destiny brings her to the royal court, where she meets Leo, a rakish prince with a disdain for everything and everyone. And it's where Hazel faces her biggest dilemma yet--to save the life of a king marked to die. Hazel knows what she is meant to do and knows what her heart is urging her toward, but what will happen if she goes against the will of Death?

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:
Erin A. Craig has always loved telling stories. After getting her BFA in Theatre Design and Production from the University of Michigan, she stage-managed tragic operas filled with hunchbacks, séances, and murderous clowns, then decided she wanted to write books that were just as spooky. Craig burst onto the scene in 2019 with her debut novel House of Salt and Sorrows, a Gothic fairy tale inspired by Grimm’s “Twelve Dancing Princesses,” which captivated critics and readers alike. Described as “a haunting, atmospheric, and immersive story” (BuzzFeed) and “a devouring and page-turning read” (BookPage), it became an instant New York Times bestseller and was named a Wall Street Journal Best Science Fiction Book of the Year and an Amazon Best Book of the Year. She followed suit with the critically acclaimed Small Favors, which was loosely based on the fairy tale “Rumpelstiltskin.” This dark retelling captivated both young adult and adult readers, who were drawn to its glittering prose, breathtaking romance, and bone-chilling horror. It was also an instant New York Times bestseller, further cementing Craig as a rising star in the literary world. Craig’s novels were acquired and are edited by VP & Publisher Wendy Loggia at Delacorte Press. An avid reader, a decent quilter, a rabid basketball fan, and a collector of typewriters, Erin makes her home in West Michigan with her husband and daughter.
ABOUT HANNAH WHITTEN:
Hannah Whitten has been writing to amuse herself since she could hold a pen, and sometime in high school, figured out that what amused her might also amuse others. When she’s not writing, she’s reading, making music, or attempting to bake. She lives in an old farmhouse in Tennessee with her husband, children, two cats, a dog, and probably some ghosts.
