DescriptionSeptember sees the final outdoor skills courses of the year.
This course will be a progressive set of four sessions with coaching designed to suit beginners as well as those who have paddled before.
Coached by our friendly and experienced instructors, this course is perfect for anyone new to kayaking. Beginners are very welcome and there is no need to be able to swim. We will cover basic paddling techniques, launching and landing safely, kayak stability and body positioning and basic safety and rescue skills.
For those with more experience we will help them progress towards developing competence and confidence in advanced skills such as capsize, rescues and rolling.
All participants will be fitted with a correctly sized buoyancy aid and kept under close supervision by the instructors.
Prerequisites
We recommend that participants should be at least 13 years old; eager to develop their skills; capable of engaging in coached exercises; and be able to paddle at an easy to moderate rate for the duration of the sessions.
This course is suitable for everyone, beginners, those who have paddled before and anyone who has been paddling for a while and wants to develop confidence in specific skills.
Equipment
We will provide all the paddlesport equipment you need; kayaks, spraydecks, paddles, buoyancy aids and helmets.
The only thing we can’t supply is your personal paddling wear. Wear a wetsuit if you have one, or normal outdoor sports clothes; fleeces or tracksuit and top, shoes to get wet and a waterproof coat.
You must bring a full set of dry clothes, shoes and a towel.
Facilities
We meet at the Round O in Enniskillen. Parking is available and there are toilet facilities, though these are not always open.
For these courses most people find it best to arrive ready to go paddling.
Afterwards, you can change at your car, or drive straight home. For changing at your car (as many paddlers do), a changing towel and mat to stand on make this a much easier and discreet process. Or some prefer to stay in their paddling kit and use a large bin liner to sit on in the car, and change at home. We do recommend that you shower soon after paddling.
