About this Event

Workshop in Mapping UCL Capacity Across the Turing Grand Challenge on “Environment and Sustainability”

The UCL Turing University Team would like to invite colleagues from across the university to participate in a workshop to discuss how UCL can engage with, influence and contribute to the Alan Turing Institute's broad Challenge in Environment and Sustainability.

This workshop is open to all UCL academic and research staff who are interested in developing ways in which UCL can influence, shape and benefit from this Turing Grand Challenge on Enviornment and Sustainability.

The Turing has transitioned to a grand challenge-led approach to science and innovation, with a focus on the translation of research excellence into commercial and societal impact. Turing's Grand Challenges, which include transformation of health, defence and security, environment and sustainability, are also complemented by a research stream on fundamental artificial intelligence.

Other Turing priorities include building skills for the future and driving an informed public conversation. Read more about the Alan Turing Institute Strategy.

As well as networking and community building, this UCL workshop will focus on the identification of

• UCL key strategic research goals and interests in the area of AI and data science for environment and sustainability

• UCL expertise and capacity in the area of AI and data science for environment and sustainability

• UCL research groups – across different faculties and department – operating in the broad area of AI and data science, environment and sustainability

The workshop will therefore also serve to inform the work of the UCL Turing University Team in helping shape the relationship between UCL and the Turing in the area of this Turing Grand Challenge.

This in-person event will take place at the Elvin Hall, Institute of Education, (IOE), from 15:00 to 17:00 on 2nd July 2024. The event will be followed by drinks and nibbles.

If you are unable to attend but are interested in future workshops, would like to discuss UCL & The Turing, or want to find out more, please contact us.
