About this Event

Global Systems for Sustainable Futures

The University of Exeter is delighted to host the Workshop 2026, co-led by the University of Exeter and The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK).

Under the theme Global Systems for Sustainable Futures, this landmark two-day event will bring together researchers, senior leaders, early career scholars and strategic partners to advance interdisciplinary collaboration in climate, biodiversity, energy, food, water and human systems research. We welcome participants from across disciplines and with an interest in sharing best practice in behavioural change, climate resilience, nature-based solutions, biodiversity, energy and more.

Workshop focus areas

The 2026 Workshop will provide a dynamic platform to showcase impact, catalyse new partnerships and identify future opportunities for SDG-aligned collaboration. Combining keynote plenaries, themed TED-talk style moderated panel/audience discussion, breakout sessions and site-based engagement activities, the 2026 Workshop is designed to foster collaboration and future programme development.

Through the Workshop, we will focus on:

  • Strengthening engagement with enterprise, policy and external partners
  • Sharing best practice in project design, delivery and impact from ENSURE projects past and present
  • Identifying emerging funding opportunities aligned with ENSURE themes
  • Designing and implementing campus sustainability policy and practice
  • Facilitating cross-cutting engagement between academic leaders and ECRs across disciplines, with networking and excursion opportunities

ENSURE Grand Challenges

The workshop is structured around ENSURE’s six Grand Challenges, each directly contributing to delivery of the Sustainable Development Goals. The ENSURE Grand Challenges include:

  • Biodiversity and Ecosystem Resilience
  • Climate Monitoring and Forecasting
  • Ecosystem-Based Solutions
  • Sustainable Energy Systems
