ENP’s inaugural Sleepy Slumber bed race will be held in Nashville, TN, on Saturday, May 18, 2024. Team check-in will begin at 8 a.m., with festivities to begin at 9 a.m. and conclude with an awards ceremony at noon. The fundraiser will take place in the Edgehill neighborhood to raise money and awareness for ENP (Empowering Neighborhood Partnerships), which works towards justice and equity for our neighbors through a weekly FreeStore that provides food, hygiene, cleaning supplies, home decor, toys, and other things our neighbors need to feel at home, an afterschool program for youth to transcend adverse childhood experiences and reach their full potential, and affordable housing advocacy throughout the city, helping tenants to self-advocate and increase the inventory of affordable units for our neighbors.Beds will race in heats over fifteen-minute intervals. The top three fastest teams will compete for first place and the Sleepy Slumber Cup. The awards presentation will take place immediately following the race.
Each bed will be raced by a team consisting of five total members: four runners and one rider. Each team is required to build its own bed. A bed-building workshop with an experienced crew offering assistance will be offered. Themes, bed decorations, and team member costumes are encouraged. Awards will also be presented for “best theme,” “most innovative design” and “best in spirit.” Teams can also earn a “Head Start” of one-bed length for each $1,000 they raise.
Sleepy Slumber race registration is now open. To participate, each team must complete the registration form and submit the $500 entry fee (which can be fundraised). For a full list of awards, racing instructions, bed design rules, Bed Building Workshop information, and more, visit our website.
