Join us for the first meeting of Háttér’s English-language Queer Book Club! We will discuss Carmen Maria Machado’s award-winning memoir, In the Dream House, which recounts her experience in an abusive queer relationship, from the initial high of intense desire through increasing volatility to emotional and physical abuse. Although the book is categorized as a memoir, it subverts many of the conventions of autobiography. It moves through various genres, tropes, folklore, theory and history, and invites us to think deeper about the workings of memory, language, desire and abuse narratives.
IMPORTANT: The book contains depictions of intimate partner abuse.
