About this Event
While everyone's writing process, creative or not, might be slightly different, creative writing is inclusive to English grammar rules.... and the breaking of them.
Join our 2-session event to dive deep and quick into refreshing your knowledge, understanding, and practice of using correct or proper English grammar, and then breaking or manipulating those rules to support your creative writing process.
We'll review the elements of a sentence, sentence fragments, comma splices and fused sentences, verb tenses and forms, active and passive voice, moods, subject-verb agreements, pronouns, parallelism, coordination/subordination, shifts, precise words, idioms, prepositions, unnecessary words, adjectives and adverbs, articles, commas, punctuations.
It'll be fun, interactive, and challenging.
We'll then explore various ways in manipulating English grammar to write and think, creatively. We'll also read and explore poems from various poets across geographic barriers, cultures, and history. Additionally, we will also learn and practice reading and writing different known poetic forms. Such as the madrigal, event poem, list poem, chant, pantoum and others. To further our creative writing spirit, we'll use our knowledge of grammar and breaking the rules to revise our writing, shift point of view, perspective, and distance within our creative writing work (poetry or not).
