What is healing?
A natural form of therapy in which pure energy flows from the healer to the client, unleashing our innate ability to self-heal. Also called energy healing, it has no harmful side effects and is a complementary therapy, meaning it works well alongside regular medical treatment. Healing seeks out the underlying cause rather than the presenting symptom and aims to deal with ‘dis-ease’ at its deepest level. Crucially, it works in the most effective way for you.
What happens during a session?
You will sit in a chair. Healers work with their hands close to your body, sometimes with a light touch – consent is always sought. Recipients usually sense something; perhaps warmth or coolness, tingling, mild pressure or release of ‘stuck’ pain. Some feel nothing at all but the process is no less effective. You can ask to stop at any time
How can healing help me?
Healing can help, sometimes profoundly, with a wide range of issues – physical, emotional and spiritual. It often produces a sense of peace and wellness and can manifest in unexpected ways, such as strong emotional release. An obvious change may happen during the session, or you may feel a sudden or more subtle benefit days later. It can be very helpful during a crisis and with terminal illness.
How long is a session and how many do I need?
A typical session lasts about 20-25 minutes after which clients are encouraged to drink water and have a quick chat to make sure they are fully grounded before leaving. One session may be all you require but it is more usual that several are needed. If you are experiencing healing for the first time, it may take two or three sessions to relax into the process and enjoy the full benefit.
Do I need to be ill to receive healing?
No. As healing is about improving health, it will serve to keep you balanced and healthy and is an excellent stress-buster. Being holistic, healing will act to restore balance in all areas of your life; it often helps bring a sense of proportion and perspective, a greater feeling of ‘feet on the ground,’ of regaining control.
Healing and my doctor
Healers are not doctors so cannot diagnose or prescribe medication, so it is important to maintain contact with your GP if you have a condition that requires medical support or treatment, or think that something is wrong.
Is my healer qualified?
Like other professional therapists, Healing Trust members carry membership cards, are insured and subscribe to a strict Code of Conduct. They have followed – or are following – a two-year course of training and personal development that culminates in a final `panel’ exam. Our healing centres also serve as training clinics, meaning you may be offered treatment from an advanced student under supervision.
The Healing Trust
Based in the UK and with global membership, we are devoted to both training healers and promoting the practice. Established in 1954 (our first president was the foremost healer of the day, Harry Edwards), we have always been leaders in the field and in 1999 helped to establish UK Healers, the standards-setting and accreditation body for healing in the country.
