In Memory of Lue Rhodes
Lue Rhodes grew up in a small town in North Carolina, where opportunities were not always easy to come by. From those humble roots, she developed a fierce and tender heart for families who were striving for more. Lue was a true champion for those in need. Family was everything to her, and she understood that when you lift one person through education, you lift an entire family for generations. She gave generously of her time, her voice, and her love to make sure those around her knew they were seen and worth fighting for. The Lue Rhodes Memorial Scholarship was established to carry that spirit forward, opening doors for students who are reaching for opportunities that may not yet feel within reach.
In Memory of Sallie Berry
Sallie Berry was a woman of remarkable intellectual depth and devotion. She pursued graduate studies and built her life around education, serving for years as a librarian, a role that suited her perfectly because she believed with her whole heart that knowledge was not meant to sit on a shelf. It was meant to be used. Sallie had a contagious zeal for learning and a gift for putting the right book, the right resource, or the right idea into someone’s hands at exactly the right moment. She saw education not as an end in itself, but as a vehicle, a way for people to discover who they were, what they were capable of, and how they could contribute to the world around them. The Sallie Berry Memorial Scholarship was established to carry that vision forward, equipping students with the tools to keep learning, growing, and making a difference.
