I have been asked to do this workshop for years by friends. I am a regular person who has spent years learning about money and exploring my feelings around it. For fifteen years, I’ve been on my fool’s journey of trial and error. I can finally say that I have reached a place where money feelings don’t consume me, and I am able to live how I want. My goal with money has never been to be rich or wealthy—that’s a joke. I aim to live a life where money serves as the currency that supports my self-governance, independence, and resourcefulness.

I often think about the current moment we are in and the question I’m sure we all have: 'Why should I worry about saving, budgeting, or investing in a future when there is literally no future? Should I just blow my money because I can’t see a tomorrow?' Those are very real thoughts—what future are we heading into? Why should I care about money when my heart breaks every day for people being martyred by my tax dollars on the other side of the world? I’m with you on this. But perhaps this is the best time to figure out how we want to live as we wait for the empire to crumble and for the new worlds we will (re)build.

Like it or not, we are in a system where money is the currency, so let’s figure out how to work with it to make the present as bearable and enjoyable as possible. This way, you have that extra rainy day fund if you want to taxidermy your puppy, or you can save up for clothes that make you feel gender-affirmed. You could take a trip to see your best friend without it impacting your livelihood, or leave a legacy fund to support a couple of abortions, some gender-affirming surgeries, and a community-run weaving co-op in Peru (this is my afterlife financial goal!). It all starts with understanding your relationship with money.

This workshop is not a 'get rich' workshop. It also doesn’t offer a 'quick fix' to financial stability, but it might provide you with frameworks to help you do the work to reach your financial goals. This is not a workshop that will cover every single aspect of money and capitalism—we literally only have 1.5 hours together! However, it is a space for all you bleeding-heart babes out there who can’t make sense of money but want to because, after all, caring about our finances is also self/community care!

Topics we will cover in this workshop:

🫀History of Money for the Clueless: Where does paper money even come from, and what are other types of currencies?

🫀A Brief History of Racial/Colonial/Cishetero Capitalism: How and where did it start? How did it spread? What is late capitalism, and how do we make sense of what is happening right now?

🫀Money Is Not Real, but My Money Feelings Are! Learning how the feelings we have around money guide our decisions. How can we restructure our relationship with money so that it works for us and not against us?

🫀Spending, Budgeting, and Planning for a Worthwhile Existence: Creating a money philosophy that serves as a framework for how we move our money.

🫀I Want Out of the Curse of Capitalism: Learning about alternatives to capitalism and money exchange. As we wait for the empire to crumble, how can we create different ways of trade and exchange outside of money and capitalism? This is where we get to dream of futures that work for all of us!

We are offering 50 spots at Early Bird pricing until 11/17. You will still be able to purchase a ticket afterwards but it will be at a higher price.

Recording

The recording will be available a couple days after the event. The recording if only for you, please do not share with others. People that did not attend will get a chance to purchase the recording afterward.

About your Flora Pacha

Flora Pacha is a project by Serpentina (they/Ser). Loba is a queer GNC Peruvian migrant herbalist, weaver, farmer, seed saver, full-spectrum birth worker (focused on abortion doula work), and writer. Ser is invested in sharing Abuelita Knowledge in hopes of building communities that depend on each other a little less on imposed systems.

They have been asked by the community to facilitate financial workshops for years, and the time has finally arrived. Ser is a survivor and migrant who has learned about money and finances mostly on their own. They often share money strategies with their friends and lovers, so now they’re funneling what they’ve learned about money relations into this workshop! Ser is interested in a future where everyone can meet their needs and work with money in a way that makes them feel supported, safe, and self-governing.

Serpetina is currently based out of so-called New Mexico where they take care of and run a small mutual aid herbal and food farm. You can follow Ser in IG and patreon. Serpentina facilitates workshops for colleges, non-profits and businesses.
