Mayor Thomas Koch will host a neighborhood workshop to solicit ideas about the future of the former Eastern Nazarene College campus at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 18, at Central Middle School on Hancock Street. Mayor Koch will provide a brief overview about the City’s interest in purchasing the property to maintain it as a community asset, and then residents will break off into working groups to share ideas, raise concerns and ask questions. Working groups will include subjects such as future uses for the main campus buildings, traffic and infrastructure, and environmental issues.
The meeting follows the mayor’s announcement last month that City acquisition of the campus site is “the only way for the community to shape the future of the campus.” An earlier offer to purchase the closed campus by a real estate developer calling for more than 600 units of housing on the site did not proceed. Mayor Koch at the time called those plans “entirely inappropriate” for the neighborhood.
