EMS System Orientation Examination
The EMS System Orientation Examination is a requirement (Policy 214) for all providers entering the Santa Clara County EMS System. The exam is designed to assess an individual’s knowledge of the the Santa Clara County EMS System, which includes, but not limited to:
- Knowledge of SCC policies and procedures;
- Prehospital treatment protocols (Policy Section 700);
- Radio communications;
- Hospital/facility destination policies; and
- Any additional information unique to the SCC EMS System
- It is the responsibility of each candidate to review and prepare for the exam.

Miscellaneous Information
- Separate versions of the exam will be provided to EMT's and paramedics. The paramedic version will also include the SCC EMS Paramedic Accreditation Exam.
- The exam consists of 50 questions and each candidate will have 60 minutes to complete the exam. A score of 85% or higher is required to successfully pass the exam.
- Those who do not obtain a passing score will be required to retake the exam at a later date.
