Many people dream of traveling abroad for a full language immersion experience—but the cost often makes those opportunities out of reach. We believe that meaningful, transformative immersion shouldn’t require a passport. It exists right here in Emporia, KS, through the people, culture, and community that make our city unique.
Join us for a weekend designed to strengthen your Spanish, build cultural understanding, and connect you with others on the same learning journey.
Weekend Overview
Friday — Welcome & Kickoff Dinner - Participants will check in on Friday afternoon and gather for a welcoming dinner. This first session focuses on conversational foundations, confidence-building activities, and setting personal goals for the weekend. You’ll meet your instructors, connect with other learners, and begin immersing yourself in Spanish from the start.
Saturday — Immersive Learning & Cultural Celebration - Saturday morning offers interactive instruction led by Kansas Spanish Speakers educators—including real-life practice, small-group sessions, and guided conversational challenges around town.
In the afternoon and evening, participants will experience Emporia’s vibrant Día de Muertos celebration in the heart of downtown. This is a rare opportunity to engage with language and culture simultaneously as you explore altars, artwork, music, food, and community traditions—all through the lens of immersion.
Sunday — Reflection, Practice & Farewell - We’ll gather Sunday morning for a closing session to reflect on progress, celebrate growth, and equip participants with strategies for continuing their Spanish journey at home. After a light brunch and final conversation activities, we’ll send everyone off inspired and empowered.
