EMPLOYMENT LAW TRAINING

This Employment Law online training has been developed by employment law specialists to build six linked modules. The online course takes students through the employment journey covering key areas of employment law, such as employee status, recruitment, onboarding, working arrangements, leave entitlements, disputes, disciplinaries and grievance procedures as well as employment terminations.

By the end of this course, learners will be familiar with some of the basics of employment law, including:

• • Employment practice, including which laws govern employment, types of working arrangement and contracts.

  • Working arrangements, such as contracts, hours, pay and pensions.
  • Types of leave, such as maternity leave and compassionate leave.
  • Some best practice and procedures for handling disputes and grievances
  • The basics of understanding retirement, redundancy and termination of employment.

• 1 Understanding the Legal Aspects
• Background to employment law, employment status, case study, contract types and responsibilities, full-time and part-time contracts, fixed-term contracts, zero-hour contracts, agency staff, freelancers, consultants and contractors, employing workers with a disability, access to work and employing young workers.
• 2 Recruitment and Starting Work
• Protected characteristics, discrimination, advertising jobs, shortlisting, interviewing, right to work, copying documents, when to contact the Home Office, Disclosure and Barring Service and induction processes.
• 3 Working Arrangements
• Employment contract, terms and conditions, probationary periods, continuous employment, flexible working and compressed hours, Working Time Regulations, flexibility in Working Time Regulations, overtime, pay and pension regulations.
• 4 Leave Entitlements
• Annual leave, additional leave entitlements, sickness absence, compassionate leave, maternity leave, Statutory Maternity Pay, return to work, paternity leave, shared parental leave, unpaid parental leave, adoption leave and IVF leave.
• 5 Managing Conflict, Disputes, Discipline and Grievance Procedures
• General guidance, solving workplace disputes or conflict, grievances, performance, capability and disciplinary issues, serious misconduct, gross misconduct, suspension from work, procedures and whistleblowing.
• 6 Employment Termination
• Termination of employment, resignation, redundancy, dismissal, fair dismissal, unfair dismissal, automatically unfair dismissals, wrongful dismissal, constructive dismissal, tribunals, settlement agreements, retirement and further resources.

The online assessment is taken on completion of the training material. You will be asked 15 multiple choice questions with a pass mark of 80%. The answers are marked automatically, so you will instantly know whether you have passed. If you don't pass, don't worry! You can take the test as many times as you need .
