Join us for the opening of Emotional Ambivalence, Hannah Davis’s first solo exhibition.
This body of work explores “the coexistence of complex feelings through layers and marks.” The show centers on the idea that multiple truths can exist within us at once. Through abstraction, Hannah visualizes emotion without relying on facial expression or figure, instead allowing color, movement, and layered washes to carry the weight of feeling.
In her words:
“Emotional Ambivalence… embraces those feelings by allowing them to coexist and interrupt each other.”
The works were created through a process of pouring washes, layering acrylic, and allowing areas to be concealed and reworked. Each piece informed the next, building a loud visual dialogue across scale and palette. Strong passages remain hidden beneath others, mirroring how thoughts and emotions can overpower one another.
Hannah writes:
“Embrace the existence of multiple feelings at once rather than categorizing and confining them.”
Opening Night Details:
Dress however makes you comfortable.
Music, wine, and drinks will be available throughout the evening.
Parking is available on Main Street and on the side of the building.
There are multiple hotels in Wytheville for out-of-town guests.
