Far from their native Peking, they struggle to navigate the bustling London pavements and numerous social conventions. Inspired by the celebrated author’s time teaching at SOAS, and originally written for a Chinese readership, this is an eye-opening, moving, compelling and at times very funny portrait of a Chinese immigrant experience in 1920s London.
