About this course
This one-day Emergency First Aid at Work course is designed to support learners in becoming emergency first aiders in the workplace.
The qualification meets Health and Safety Executive HSE and HSENI requirements for training emergency first aiders, where organisations have identified this level of training through their first aid needs assessment.
The qualification is valid for three years from the date of award. In line with HSE guidance, it is recommended that learners refresh their knowledge annually.
What you will learn
Roles and responsibilities of a first aider
How to assess an incident
Cardiopulmonary resuscitation CPR
Use of an automated external defibrillator AED
How to help a choking casualty
Managing external bleeding and hypovolaemic shock
Providing first aid for minor injuries
Assessment
This qualification is assessed through both practical and theory assessment.
Practical assessment
Ongoing throughout the course. Learners will demonstrate practical first aid skills, recorded using a practical assessment matrix.
Theory assessment
A 15-question multiple-choice paper, completed at the end of the course or once all knowledge has been covered.

Physically fit
Free from back problems
Not affected by breathing problems
Eligibility and important information
This course is free to attend but participants must:
Be aged 19 or over
Live in Wales
Provide valid ID
Not be on an apprenticeship at the same time
Non-UK citizens must supply a valid BRP or visa card.

About the qualification
The Emergency First Aid at Work Level 3 Award is developed and awarded by Highfield Qualifications and sits on the Regulated Qualifications Framework RQF. The RQF is regulated by Ofqual and CCEA Regulation.
