Emerge: Restorative Somatics for the Vernal Equinox with Armen Menechyan
In the PRS Lecture Room
This two-hour session is for aficionados of restorative and deep rest. A continuation of The Shape of Stillness, which was offered in the winter months, Emerge carries a sense of warming, thawing and return. It’s offered near the vernal equinox—a time that supports gradual change without urgency or effort. This offering may especially support those living with loss, navigating grief or transition, or feeling the need to move slowly and with care. The intention is not to arrive anywhere, but to create the conditions for something to emerge in its own time.
The practice will be slow and primarily floor-based, drawing from somatic movement and therapeutic yoga. Participants will work on yoga mats and blankets, mostly in supine and resting positions, with an emphasis on sensing, feeling, and listening. Movement will be minimal and responsive, allowing space to explore the physical and emotional body without pushing or trying to fix anything.
The session is guided as an embodied inquiry. Alongside supported movement, questions will be offered throughout the session—not for analysis, but for quiet noticing and reflection through sensation and experience. You’re welcome to engage with these prompts in your own way, at your own pace, letting the body lead rather than the mind.
We’ll explore small shifts of weight, subtle spirals, and simple transitions, with generous pauses and quiet time throughout. The focus is on internal awareness, listening, nervous system regulation, and meeting the body as it is.
This practice is open to all levels and no prior experience is needed. You’re invited to come exactly as you are. Please bring your yoga mat. We will provide blankets.
Armen Menechyan is a Los Angeles–born practitioner and facilitator who is deeply inspired by our collective capacity for goodness, wisdom and love. He trusts the organic pace of inquiry and contemplation, allowing each session to unfold from presence rather than prescription. His offerings weave playful movement, embodied investigation, attentive dialogue, and vulnerability—empowering practitioners to explore and chart their own path with honesty and curiosity.
With over 800 hours of training in yoga therapy, somatics, and meditation—and more than two decades of personal practice—Armen’s work is rooted in energetics, the subtle body, and a lifelong study of human consciousness. He brings a therapeutic, intuitive touch to yoga, blending breathwork, meditation, and trauma-informed somatic frameworks that support nervous system regulation and deeper states of rest.
Meditation is a central pillar of his path. His monthlong vipassana retreat in Nepal in 2015 formed the foundation of his practice. A recent weeklong silent retreat focused on Maranasati, the Buddhist contemplation on the mindfulness of death, shaped his current offerings with a sense of presence, clarity, and reverence for impermanence.
Armen teaches throughout Los Angeles and beyond, offering group classes, one-on-one somatic work, queer-centered community gatherings, and retreats that invite participants into connection, slowing down, and the art of joy. Armen’s work also extends to Armenia, where he has contributed to community-based healing and projects serving activists, youth, queer communities, and social changemakers at numerous NGOs.
